The types of characters we are using

Propp's theory application to horror film characters:
When thinking about our villain like character and who could play that role, I thought it would be very important to research and inspire myself from the conventional and popular characters used in the horror genre films. We have already chosen our princess or female victim which is Patricia as she really suited the stereotypically attractive, feminine and therefore weaker appearance that is commonly and repeatedly used in horror films. Even though we had already chosen Patricia, I wanted to deepen my understanding of why characters are chosen in those specific ways constantly in horror and how these chosen stereotypes create effect and meaning in horror target audiences.
The princess:
FEMALE VICTIM (PRINCESS) :
- Portrayed as being vulnerable and someone who needs protecting (by the hero)
- The representation has come from earlier horror films when it was always female as it was more sexist in that time.
- The victim is usually young and attractive
- This character helps put the audience on edge as they are usually extremely jumpy and scared.
The chase:
The chase often consists of a sexualised and degraded woman running for her life as an assailant hunts her down and kills her. Often, The Chase will feature the woman in various states of undress and lecherous camerawork that focuses on her body before she is killed in an attempt to mix sex and violence. Female victims in slasher films are shown to be in a state of fear five times as long as males, specifically occurring during "the chase". Female characters also include the use of sexual behavior such as shown in undergarments, partially or completely nude, or teasing or enticing male characters in a sensual manner.
The villain:

EVIL CHARACTER (ANTAGONIST)
- The antagonist can take a lot of different forms in horror movies such as the serial killer, a ghost or a vampire etc.
- Their face is usually hidden to create suspense and a fear of the unknown for the audience.
- This character is the character who scares the audience the most and puts fear into them.
- REPRESENTATION = NEGATIVE
